Sustaining a men’s ministry in the church are probably the most challenging missions, but perhaps we want a better vision.
Every ministry in the church needs a formidable vision, and men’s ministry is not any different. But do we understand the most beneficial version and expression with this? In this Resolute Podcast, Vince Miller is joined through the pastor and author Roger Thompson from Man Inside the Mirror Ministries. Today they discuss the topic of developing a vision for any men of your house of worship.

Well I think I ought to start first by defining what we mean by discipleship. And what i mean by that is purely somebody who’s following Jesus towards ever-growing stations of faith. And what I do believe we tend to think – as soon as you pose the question, “Why should discipleship be the middle of men’s ministry? ” I do believe the default – in most men’s minds is, “How should i get men into some systematic Bible study? ” In addition to again, nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, say more about this. ‘Cause I love the best way that you say of which. Because sometimes guys can come to you, and they have a concept of what they think of men’s ministry as. And it’s a course, it’s a system, it’s a process. But then they miss other side of it. That's how do we extremely mobilize men? How do we cause them to embrace the lifestyle of which Jesus lived, that is put forth in God’s word, but not see it as exclusively either a system or a course of action. Or on the many other end, only as some Bible study, right?

But I also prefer to say that discipleship is not really up to the men’s ministry to complete. There – it happens in lots of, many other places. So basically – let me say it with this. The healthier the house of worship, the less footprint the men’s ministry are going to have – or should have.

Yeah so, what I hear everyone saying is that found . have a larger enjoy of what men’s ministry could be. Or a larger eye sight – not be which means exclusive or myopic about saying, “It’s only some Bible study. And if numbers arrive at my Bible study, subsequently I’m successful. ” Or – if we've 100 men that arrive at a men’s retreat, subsequently we’re successful. It’s more about how are we mobilizing men through the entire church? We’re giving them opportunities to nurture in their faith, using their gifts and visiting service and projects and engagement while using whole church – not just with us. That is a real healthier view, it sounds like?
Absolutely. Yes. We contain a man in our house of worship named John, who outdated – I don’t realize? 15 years ago out of teaching. Very vigorous man. And his ministry was to our church camp. Where one can find hundreds and hundreds involving first-time decisions for Christ made every summer. And countless re-dedication. And John started getting trips to Trout Lake to complete building up there. And he’s probably got 30 men within our church who go with him. It’s very restful, it’s under the radar. They're going up there, and that they do tremendous work. They’ve given literally quantities of free labor. Skilled labor to the camp. Where children come as they are saved and discipled. Air cleaner will add – yeah, he’s some Bible student, but that they don’t go and study the Bible.
