Developing a men’s ministry in the church is among the most most challenging missions, but perhaps we need a better vision.
Every ministry in the church needs a robust vision, and men’s ministry 's no different. But do we understand the most beneficial version and expression from this? In this Resolute Podcast, Vince Miller is joined by the pastor and author Roger Thompson from Man With the Mirror Ministries. Well I think I will start first by defining that which you mean by discipleship. And enjoy by that is just somebody who’s following Jesus right into ever-growing stations of faith. And what I do believe we tend to think – when you pose the question, “Why should discipleship be the middle of men’s ministry? ” I do believe the default – for most men’s minds is, “How does an individual get men into some sort of systematic Bible study? ” Along with again, nothing wrong bring back.

Yeah, say more with that. ‘Cause I love the way in which that you say this. Because sometimes guys occurs to you, and they have perhaps a concept of what they think of men’s ministry as. And it’s an opportunity, it’s a system, it’s an activity. But then they miss additional side of it. That's how do we really mobilize men? How do we encourage them to embrace the lifestyle this Jesus lived, that is arranged in God’s word, though not see it as exclusively either a system or a course of action. Or on the additional end, only as some sort of Bible study, right?

But I also prefer to say that discipleship is not up to the men’s ministry to undertake. There – it happens in a great many, many other places. So this means that – let me say it in such a manner. The healthier the house of worship, the less footprint the men’s ministry should have – or require.

Yeah so, what I hear most people saying is that we should instead have a larger view of what men’s ministry is usually. Or a larger vision – not be so exclusive or myopic concerning saying, “It’s only some sort of Bible study. And if numbers found yourself in my Bible study, after that I’m successful. ” Or – if we have 100 men that found yourself in a men’s retreat, after that we’re successful. It’s more about how precisely exactly are we mobilizing men throughout the church? We’re giving them opportunities growing in their faith, using their gifts and looking at service and projects and engagement while using the whole church – not with us. That is indeed a healthier view, it seems like?
Absolutely. Yes. We possess a man in our house of worship named John, who launched onto – I don’t know? 15 years ago coming from teaching. Very vigorous person. And his ministry was to your church camp. Where you can find hundreds and hundreds associated with first-time decisions for Christ constructed every summer. And countless re-dedication. And John started taking trips to Trout Lake to undertake building up there. And he’s probably got 30 men in this church who go along with him. It’s very silent, it’s under the radar. They're going up there, and they do tremendous work. They’ve given literally quantities of free labor. Skilled labor to the current camp. Where children come and tend to be saved and discipled. Setting up – yeah, he’s some sort of Bible student, but they don’t go and analyze the Bible.
