Having a men’s ministry in the church is among the most most challenging missions, but perhaps we need a better vision.
Every ministry with the church needs a strong vision, and men’s ministry is not any different. But do we understand the most beneficial version and expression with this? In this Resolute Podcast, Vince Miller is joined by way of the pastor and author Roger Thompson from Man Inside the Mirror Ministries. Well I think I will start first by defining what we mean by discipleship. And why by that is purely somebody who’s following Jesus right into ever-growing stations of faith. And what I believe we tend to think – when you pose the question, “Why should discipleship be the middle of men’s ministry? ” I believe the default – practically in men’s minds is, “How should i get men into some systematic Bible study? ” In addition to again, nothing wrong bring back.

Yeah, say more about this. ‘Cause I love the manner that you say of which. Because sometimes guys can come to you, and they also have a concept of what they see men’s ministry as. And it’s a business, it’s a system, it’s an activity. But then they miss one other side of it. That's how do we definitely mobilize men? But I also wish to say that discipleship is not up to the men’s ministry you need to do. There – it happens in lots of, many other places. So this means that – let me say it in such a manner. The healthier the rec center, the less footprint the men’s ministry can have – or should have.

Yeah so, what I hear people saying is that we need to have a larger view of what men’s ministry might. Or a larger imaginative and prescient vision – not be which means that exclusive or myopic concerning saying, “It’s only some Bible study. And if numbers arrived at my Bible study, then I’m successful. ” Or – if we've 100 men that arrived at a men’s retreat, then we’re successful. It’s more about precisely how are we mobilizing men through the entire church? We’re giving them opportunities to cultivate in their faith, by employing their gifts and visiting service and projects and engagement together with the whole church – not only on with us. That really is a healthier view, it actually sounds like?
Absolutely. Yes. We possess a man in our rec center named John, who launched onto – I don’t find out? 15 years ago from teaching. Very vigorous guy. And his ministry was to church camp. Where you can find hundreds and hundreds with first-time decisions for Christ created every summer. And 1000s of re-dedication. And John started taking trips to Trout Lake you need to do building up there. And he’s probably got 30 men within our church who go with him. It’s very silent, it’s under the radar. They go up there, and they will do tremendous work. They’ve given literally quantities of free labor. Skilled labor to this camp. Where children come and tend to be saved and discipled. Air cleaner will add – yeah, he’s some Bible student, but they will don’t go and go through the Bible.
