Preparing a men’s ministry in the church is one of the most challenging missions, but perhaps we want a better vision.
Every ministry within the church needs a robust vision, and men’s ministry is not a different. But do we understand the best version and expression from this? In this Resolute Podcast, Vince Miller is joined by the pastor and author Roger Thompson from Man In the Mirror Ministries. Well I think I should start first by defining cures mean by discipleship. And the reason by that is easily somebody who’s following Jesus straight into ever-growing stations of faith. And what I think we tend to think – whenever you pose the question, “Why should discipleship be the middle of men’s ministry? ” I think the default – for most men’s minds is, “How do i get men into your systematic Bible study? ” In addition to again, nothing wrong with this.

Yeah, say more this. ‘Cause I love the best way that you say which. Because sometimes guys occurs to you, and they have a concept of what they look into men’s ministry as. And it’s a course, it’s a system, it’s a procedure. But then they miss one another side of it. Which is how do we definitely mobilize men? How do we encourage them to embrace the lifestyle which Jesus lived, that is put forth in God’s word, though not see it as exclusively either a system or a operation. Or on the additional end, only as your Bible study, right?

But I also wish to say that discipleship is not up to the men’s ministry you need to do. There – it happens in many, many other places. So this means that – let me say it in this way. The healthier the rec center, the less footprint the men’s ministry are going to have – or prefer.

Yeah so, what I hear most people saying is that we should have a larger enjoy of what men’s ministry may just be. Or a larger eye sight – not be thus exclusive or myopic on the subject of saying, “It’s only your Bible study. And if numbers come to my Bible study, next I’m successful. ” Or – if you'll find 100 men that come to a men’s retreat, next we’re successful. It’s more precisely how are we mobilizing men throughout the church? We’re giving them opportunities to grow in their faith, by employing their gifts and searching service and projects and engagement while using whole church – not just with us. That is actually a healthier view, it appears like?
Absolutely. Yes. We have got a man in our rec center named John, who retired – I don’t find out? 15 years ago coming from teaching. Very vigorous man. And his ministry was to our church camp. Where there is hundreds and hundreds associated with first-time decisions for Christ built every summer. And tens of thousands of re-dedication. And John started spending trips to Trout Lake you need to do building up there. And he’s probably got 30 men in this particular church who go by means of him. It’s very quiet, it’s under the radar. They go up there, and people do tremendous work. They’ve given literally huge amount of money of free labor. Skilled labor to the current camp. Where children come as they are saved and discipled.
