Having a men’s ministry in the church belongs to the most challenging missions, but perhaps we want a better vision.
Every ministry within the church needs a tough vision, and men’s ministry is no different. But do we understand the top version and expression with this? In this Resolute Podcast, Vince Miller is joined from the pastor and author Roger Thompson from Man Within the Mirror Ministries. Well I think I ought to start first by defining that which you mean by discipleship. And what i mean by that is merely somebody who’s following Jesus inside ever-growing stations of faith. And what I think we tend to think – after you pose the question, “Why should discipleship be the midst of men’s ministry? ” I think the default – in most men’s minds is, “How does an individual get men into your systematic Bible study? ” And additionally again, nothing wrong bring back.

Yeah, say more with that. ‘Cause I love the manner that you say that. Because sometimes guys arrives to you, and they've got a concept of what they imagine men’s ministry as. And it’s a business, it’s a system, it’s a procedure. But then they miss the other side of it. Which is how do we really mobilize men? How do we get them to embrace the lifestyle that Jesus lived, that is laid out in God’s word, but is not see it as exclusively either a system or a system. Or on the many other end, only as your Bible study, right?

But I also want to say that discipleship is absolutely not up to the men’s ministry to undertake. There – it happens in most, many other places. So basically – let me say it with this. The healthier the rec center, the less footprint the men’s ministry should have – or need to have.

Yeah so, what I hear people saying is that we should instead have a larger perspective of what men’s ministry is usually. Or a larger vision – not be which means exclusive or myopic concerning saying, “It’s only your Bible study. And if numbers arrived at my Bible study, after that I’m successful. ” Or – if we have 100 men that arrived at a men’s retreat, after that we’re successful. It’s more about how are we mobilizing men during the entire church? We’re giving them opportunities to nurture in their faith, by employing their gifts and studying service and projects and engagement while using whole church – not just with us. That is actually a healthier view, it sounds like?
Absolutely. Yes. We employ a man in our rec center named John, who out of production – I don’t find out? 15 years ago coming from teaching. Very vigorous man. And his ministry was to church camp. Where there is hundreds and hundreds associated with first-time decisions for Christ produced every summer. And tens of thousands of re-dedication. And John started taking trips to Trout Lake to undertake building up there. And he’s probably got 30 men within our church who go along with him. It’s very calm, it’s under the radar. They're going up there, and people do tremendous work. They’ve given literally millions of dollars of free labor. Skilled labor to this camp. Where children come and they are saved and discipled. Air cleaner will add – yeah, he’s your Bible student, but people don’t go and examine the Bible.
